    Under construction

Locar: we are building a pharmacy that keeps selling even when the internet goes down

Under construction: point of sale, batch inventory and electronic receipts for pharmacies, designed to work with no internet.

    The leak

The pharmacy runs on an old desktop point of sale. It needs to keep selling and printing valid receipts when the internet drops, take stock from the batch closest to expiry, and send everything to the tax authority with no manual work when the connection is back.

    What we built

    • Selling with no internet: a device in the store signs each receipt and keeps it until the connection is back.
    • Electronic receipts sent to the tax authority on a schedule.
    • Inventory by batch and expiry, with transfers, reorder points and alerts.
    • Cash shifts with a closing that balances even after working offline.
    • Several branches with roles, promotions and discounts approved by the pharmacist.
Locar point of sale with an open sale: products by batch, promotion, prescription-only item and electronic receipt (demonstration image with sample data)
    • Locar inventory by batch with expiry tracking and stock per branch (demonstration image with sample data)
    • Locar cash close: coin and bill count and payment methods calculated by the system (demonstration image with sample data)

    How we built it

A local service in each branch signs and queues sales; in the cloud, an API on AWS Lambda with Amazon API Gateway, Amazon Cognito for access and PostgreSQL. A job scheduled with Amazon EventBridge sends the tax documents.
